It\'s new release Wednesday!

I\'m sorry, you\'re not sure what that means? Well, much like the music industry with new albums (or should I say, new digital downloads) being released every Tuesday, in the comic book world new issues are released every Wednesday. Don\'t ask me why Wednesday, I\'m sure there is some super stoic reason for it, I just don\'t care to look it up. With that said, today is a BIG day what with the release of the latest Dark Avengers, New Avengers, New Mutants, Dark X-Men Origins and what have you, so needless to say, today is an exciting day.

That\'s why it was beyond super-awesome to find an email from our favorite female comic nerd, Ryan Keely this morning. In it, not only were there some blasting sexy pics of her riding dirt bikes but also a list of her favorite comics! Now, Ms. Keely doesn\'t groove on superhero stories, so her faves are the more sadistic, tortured and downright perverted books out there. So you\'re going to enjoy this...so, from Ms. Keely herself...

PERDITA DURANGO (The Graphic Adaptation)
Graphic sex, violence, and road trips; these are themes that make me very happy. This is the book that warped by brain. I read this at a punk rock squat when I was super-underage. It was so dirty and graphic that it was taken away from me. Even punk rockers thought this was inappropriate for a child. It took me years to find another copy. First I found text-only versions, but words needed the extraordinary art to revive that indelible imprint on my brain. The art was done by Scott Gillis on scratch board. Scratch board images are created in reverse where the artist starts with a black page and scratches away to reveal patches of light. This unusual technique is great for creating intense images that always appear a bit startling since they are essentially negatives. The dark images perfectly complement this voodoo, crime adventure novel by Barry Gifford (better known for Wild at Heart). Thick, heavy, film noir overtures can nearly be felt emanating from the pages of this book. It makes me feel like driving at night with bad intentions.

DOKTOR SLEEPLESS/TRANSMETROPOLITAN/FREAK ANGELS
Warren Ellis\' portrayal of 3 different potentialities for the future delves into many of my personal fantasies and fears for the future of the human race. Dystopia, technophilic, and survivalist individuality are strong currents in each Ellis reality. His ability to infuse human stories with complex visions of how technology might have evolved, and in turn, humanity\'s response to technology\'s evolution makes for fascinating social commentary. Like all my favorites Ellis\' packs plenty of sex, violence and meaningful social commentary in work.

PREACHER
Fucking. Epic. This book is so many things. It\'s a hard drinking buddy comedy between a vampire with a drug problem and a Texas preacher that talks to John Wayne, a criminal love story between a cowboy and a woman with perfect aim and brains, a plan to bring on End of Days using a retarded boy, a fucked up hillbilly family drama that makes the entirety of Deliverance look like wholesome family fun, and a morbidly obese, bulimic cardinal going head-to-head with a murdering, kinky sex-having, head of a shadow organization culminating in a villain battle royale. God\'s a total douchebag. The dude that makes hell freeze over becomes a saint and there\'s a guy with a face like an arse. This has it all: blasphemy, road trips, violence, gore, drugs, booze, rock and roll, sex and true love. \'Nuff said.

SCALPED
This series helped me get through the dark days of Preacher withdrawal. It\'s a gritty crime noir based on a modern day Indian reservation. The story revolves around a mysterious prodigal son who comes back to work both for the reservation police and the corrupt tribal leader. A drug trafficking ring and some feds looking to settle an old score keep the pressure on our anti-hero as he wrestles with his sexual obsession with the chief\'s estranged daughter and her own addictions to sex and drugs. Dark, gritty and delicious.

THE WALKING DEAD
Best. Zombie. Anything (book, movie, song, etc). Ever. Read it now to be prepared for the AMC series. And start preparing yourself for the Zombiepocalypse.

Now get out there and buy some comics! \"Nuff said. Oh, and stare the shit out of some sexy Ryan Keely!
